Amaran Wins Three National Awards, Rajkumar Periasamy, GV Prakash and R Kalaivanan Honoured

The National Film Awards have brought another proud moment for Amaran, with Kamal Haasan’s production banner Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI) celebrating three major wins for the 2024 Tamil film. The biographical drama has been recognised at the 72nd National Film Awards with honours for Best Direction, Best Music Direction (Background Music) and Best Editing. RKFI shared the news on social media with the celebratory line, “THE STORY WAS POWERFUL THE CRAFT WAS EXTRAORDINARY THE HONOUR IS NATIONAL.”

Director Rajkumar Periasamy received the award for Best Direction, while composer GV Prakash Kumar was honoured for Best Music Direction in the Background Music category. R Kalaivanan also received the National Award for Best Editing. The three awards recognise different creative aspects of Amaran, from its direction and emotional musical score to the editing that helped shape its dramatic narrative.

Starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, Amaran tells the story of Major Mukund Varadarajan, an Indian Army officer who was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra. The film follows his life, military service and personal relationships, bringing together the emotional and action-driven aspects of his journey. Its blend of intimate moments and combat sequences made the film a major cinematic portrayal of the late officer’s life.

The 61-second video shared by RKFI celebrates the film’s National Award success with a mix of powerful footage. It features dramatic scenes from Amaran, including wedding and combat sequences, alongside glimpses from the National Film Awards ceremony. The video also captures members of the team receiving their Rajat and Swarna honours, before ending with the Amaran title card highlighting its three National Awards.
